Fed: Former independent MP Peter Macdonald to challenge Abbott
Former independent New South Wales MP PETER MACDONALD will challenge Liberal Workplace
Relations Minister TONY ABBOTT for his federal seat.
Dr MACDONALD says he will stand as an independent for the safe Liberal seat of Warringah,
in Sydney's north, at this year's election.
He says he will not play personality politics with his high profile opponent.
But he says Mr ABBOTT spends a lot of time away from his electorate and his effectiveness
as a local member is limited by party politics.
Dr MACDONALD says winning Warringah is a possibility, although it will take a 13 per
cent swing to unseat the federal minister.
