Vic: Cabbies start voting on proposed parking charge plan

Melbourne taxi drivers have started voting on a plan to levy a $1.60 parking charge
at Melbourne Airport.

Cabbies have been incensed at the new charge, which the airport wants to impose to
cover the cost of a new carpark and taxi amenities.

The state government stepped in last Friday to offer a compromise deal.

Under the deal, drivers will be offered a 12.5 per cent commission from the fee as
a service and handling charge, plus 20 introductory free trips.
